Overview

NEO is 1X Technologies’ consumer home humanoid, opened for US pre-orders for first deliveries in 2026. The Norwegian-founded, now Palo Alto-headquartered company designed NEO to be deliberately un-intimidating: a lightweight soft body that is quiet and safe to be around people at home.

AI & autonomy

NEO runs 1X’s in-house Redwood AI, a generalist vision-language-action model, alongside the 1X World Model and a built-in LLM for speech. Its most distinctive and most debated feature is human-in-the-loop teleoperation: when NEO cannot complete a task autonomously, a remote 1X expert can take control with the owner’s consent, and those demonstrations train the model. 1X addresses privacy concerns with consent gating, configurable no-go zones and face blurring.

Deployment & traction

NEO is OpenAI-backed. Total confirmed funding is around $125–136M (a Series B that closed in January 2024 valued the company at roughly $820M); in late 2025 the company was reported to be in talks to raise up to ~$1bn at a targeted valuation of $10bn or more, which has not been confirmed as closed. An EQT agreement would deploy up to 10,000 NEO units across EQT’s portfolio companies during 2026–2030.
